One of Sweden’s most renowned art institutions is located in central Kalmar. It is a contemporary art museum, dedicated to raising questions and finding new perspectives on issues that influence people’s future and challenges that affect the region.

The museum has attracted a lot of attention over the years and we are considered one of the most interesting art institutions in the country, with a unique ambition to be a regional museum while at the same time keeping an international profile. In many places, art and culture is the only way to work with issues concerning democracy and social development. Kalmar konstmuseum works in collaboration with artists and institutions in other parts of the world to support their social and political efforts.

The museum aspires to be a meeting place for reflection, discussion and new impressions. It wants to be a voice in public debates and constitute a cultural engine in the Kalmar region. To achieve this, a significant amount of pedagogical activities for children and young people is carried out. Guided tours of the exhibitions are included in the entry price every Sunday and Kalmar konstmuseum also organises a program of events including artist talks, public lectures and seminars in connection to the exhibitions.
