Polygraph/Index of Lights in the Sky

Carl Hammoud, Johannes Heldén // 12.3 - 8.5 2011

As the title indicates this exhibition consists of two joined separate exhibitions. Carl Hammoud has created a coherent installation taking as its point of departure what can be contained in a lie detector - the polygraph. In a series of meticulously carried out paintings, drawings and objects Hammoud is reflecting over the concept of the image and its condition; being an illusion. In a similar way Johannes Heldén is using a number of references to art history and  popular culture. In Heldéns case the references are often linked to an idea of the future or of worlds beyond the one that exists on this planet. His show is made up of a selection of works  from the last six years of his artistic output and consists of animations, sound, interactive works and drawings. They can be perceived as poetic snap-shots and courses of events in a natural as well as in an imaginary world.

It is the first time that these friends and colleagues are exhibiting together. By bringing them together Kalmar konstmuseum is intending to extract new artistic aspects from these highly acclaimed artists. In 2010 the exhibition Polygraph was shown at Göteborgs konstmuseum and at  Malmö museum. For this exhibition at Kalmar konstmuseum an illustrated catalogue featuring the works of Carl Hammoud has been produced, also containing a new essay by Alejandro Leiva Wenger. Johannes Heldén is also a poet and literary works by the artist will be available in the museum shop.
