Let’s go to the park

Beatrice Alemagna

29/04 - 28/08 2023

Get to know the acclaimed children’s book illustrator Beatrice Alemagna in a combined exhibition and workshop where we dive deep into her world of images based on the book Let’s go to the park (Vi går till parken). Experience the original drawings, read and be inspired to continue outside in our Konstpark.

Beatrice Alemagna (b. 1973 Bologna, works in Paris) began to draw playgrounds in Paris and from her drawings a conversation grew between her and the Swedish author Sara Stridsberg about freedom and dreams. The collaboration became the picture book Let’s go to the park [Vi går till parken], a poetic story about play and friendship that contains magnificent landscapes, small ants and tempting clim- bing structures. All around, children balance, climb, read, wait and rest while they invent and discover the world through playing.

The exhibition Let ́s go to the park, which has also been shown at
the Institut Suédois in Paris in 2021 and Wanås Konst in 2022, shows around twenty of Alemagna’s original illustrations. Tracks from the exhibition space will lead to the seaside where some of Alemagna’s figures have made their way out. Just as garden figures have popu- lated parks and gardens since the 17th century, Alemagna’s illustra- tions take up physical space in the City Park and become an active part of the summer’s creative activity Konstparken. In Konstparken, children of all ages can discover the City Park in different ways, inspired by Beatrice Alemagna’s imagery.
