Summer 2022 will feature a large solo exhibition with paintings and drawings by the artist Susanne Bonja, born in Växjö in 1966 and currently living and working in Kalmar. In her art she intersects dreams, fantasy and fiction with fragments of memories from her own life. Her paintings are stagings, where layer upon layer is worked into a motive triggering the viewer’s imagination. Painting is allowed to take its time as she carefully finds the right colour scheme, perspective and mood.

What is dream – what is reality? At times everything seamlessly converges. Day, night, light and dark. The people in the paintings play different parts in a dramatised performance. Sometimes a sense of weightlessness and insecurity emerges. But just as often, the person has taken control of the room, stands steadfast, determines the direction and gives answers. Through these large scale paintings full of detail and the more pared back and direct drawings, nuances of different states of being, atmosphere and events are explored.
