The photographer Rolf Lind is known for his empathetic portraits and at the same time has contributed important time documents from environments in Kalmar that do not get the opportunity to take part in the exhibition The Pictures Tell. A common thread in Rolf Lind’s photographs is his interest in portraying people and meeting his surroundings.
Rolf Lind had a long-standing friendship with the artist couple Raine Navin (1934–2016) and Gunilla Skyttla (1934–2016). They came to be followed through many projects and Rolf Lind describes it as that he often made images of Raine Navin’s ideas. The photographs of Raine Navin and Gunilla Skyttla are reproduced in books and have been shown in several exhibitions. Therefore, we have chosen to show a different side of the photographer in our library with some shots from an extensive material of environments and everyday situations from the late 1950s and 1960s. Documentary time capsules from Kalmar, Stockholm, Spain and France.
The so-called clapboard house, at the northwestern part of Kvarnholmen in Kalmar, is the only remaining one of its kind in Sweden. The exterior and interior look the same today as when the photos were taken. The light is reflected in the water and we see both men and women busy washing carpets. This photograph is one of seventeen images that can be experienced in the exhibition in our library.
