Stig Lindberg
Skotten, 1961
Gustavsbergs fabriker
In connection with Svenska Handelsbanken’s 90th anniversary in 1961, Stig Lindberg designed a plastic money box. Inspired by his own dog, the box was shaped like a Scottish Terrier. For the bank’s 100th anniversary, Skotten was produced in ceramic in three sizes as a gift to the bank’s customers.
Skotten was made for Handelsbanken, but KF produced many of their own money boxes. Thrift was from the start one of the cooperative’s most important ideals. KF fought against a destructive credit culture, and during the 1930s KF ran thousands of study circles in household economics. Consumption was to be sensible and moderate. People were also encouraged to keep their Konsum receipts — that way they would receive dividends at the end of the year.
